"Creating Visual Worlds between memory, imagination and inner experience"
Kat Komen (born 1972, Zaandam, The Netherlands) is a Dutch visual artist living and working in Schellinkhout, North Holland.
From an early age, creativity played a central role in her life. Photography became a natural passion, inspired in part by her father, who shared the same love for the medium. Alongside photography, she explored drawing and painting, constantly searching for a visual language that could express what she imagined and felt.
Entirely self-taught, Komen spent years experimenting with different techniques and materials. Her desire to move beyond traditional photography eventually led her to develop a distinctive artistic practice that combines photography with layered digital painting. This approach allows her to create atmospheric and imaginative works that blur the boundaries between reality, memory and imagination.
Since 2011, she has focused on creating autonomous artworks and has exhibited her work throughout the Netherlands. Her art has received several audience awards and is held in private collections.
Today, Kat Komen creates unique one-of-one artworks from her studio in Schellinkhout, where she continues to explore the relationship between inner experience, imagination and visual storytelling.
